Frequently asked questions
Material
Cast iron is an alloy of iron with carbon (2.5–6.67%), manganese, and silicon, cast into molds. It is produced by remelting pig iron, along with coke and lime, in a cupola, induction furnace, or drum furnace. Due to the coarse structure of the casting process, a cast iron object is easily recognizable by its characteristic appearance.
Cast iron is an ideal material for a fire bowl because it's refractory (doesn't warp) and less susceptible to rust than steel, for example. Steel fire bowls wear off a layer each time they heat, which shortens their lifespan. Because of its durability, cast iron is also often used for engine blocks, stoves, and fireplaces.
Corten steel, also known as weathering steel, is a metal alloy of iron with copper, phosphorus, silicon, nickel, and chromium. Its strength is comparable to that of other alloyed steels, such as stainless steel.
Corten steel is characterized by its brownish-orange rust color and long lifespan. This is because the first layer of corrosion prevents further rust formation. Corten steel is used in various applications, such as artwork, facade cladding, and garden decoration. Furthermore, the second-largest suspension bridge in the world is made of Corten steel. Thanks to the unique properties of this material, painting is unnecessary.
Stainless steel (SS), also known as
stainless steel or inox, is an alloy of mainly iron, chromium,
nickel and carbon. To be considered stainless steel, it must
contain at least 11–12% chromium and a maximum of 1.2% carbon. In addition,
elements such as molybdenum, titanium, manganese, nitrogen and silicon are present
are.
Co-Fire uses 420 stainless steel for its
BBQ grills.
The GrillRings are made of
high-quality 8 mm hardened steel. The steel has been specially heat treated
tension-free, which minimizes the risk of warping and
surface becomes extra hard. This makes it ideal for easy and
hygienic baking, roasting, grilling and cooking.

Tips & Maintenance
To quickly achieve a beautiful rust color, you can wash the bowl with household vinegar, let it sit for two hours, and then rinse with water. Repeat this process until the first layer of rust appears.
To slow down the rusting process, you can grease the bowl with vegetable oil.
This closes the porous holes when heated and increases durability, especially on the inside.
A cover plate (" The Top ") protects the bowl and significantly extends its lifespan.
No, the bowl does not have a standard water drain to prevent rust and soot stains on marble floors, for example.
If desired, you can drill a small drain hole yourself or have us do it for a small fee (0.8–1 cm). Please note: a bowl with a drilled drain cannot be returned.
The " The Top " cover plate is an ideal solution to keep rainwater out.
All fire bowls are supplied with a manual.
GrillRing 80 and 90: Adjustable height. Loosen the bolts on the bottom and move the support element to the desired position. Use the notches as a reference and tighten the bolts evenly for even pressure distribution. The GrillRing should be positioned approximately 1 cm below the rim of the dish so you can still cover it with " The Top ."
GrillRing 60 and 72: Can be placed directly in the corresponding fire bowl. Ensure the bowl and GrillRing are level. With repeated use, the GrillRing may shift due to grease buildup. In that case, use the included hook for extra stability.
- The GrillRing is supplied stainless steel. Clean it with water and grease it immediately to prevent rust formation.
- Use an oil with a high combustion rate (>180°C), such as olive oil.
- Heat the GrillRing on a low flame for the first half hour to allow it to settle. This minimizes warping.
- After burning, the ring turns black and is ready for use.
Watch our instructional video for seasoning your fire bowl.
- Interim cleaning can be done with the spatula "The Turner" by pushing grease residues towards the fire.
- Greasing after use prevents rust formation.
- Store the GrillRing in a dry place if you are not using it for an extended period of time.
- Any rust formation can easily be removed with steel wool or fine sandpaper.
- Use well-dried wood such as oak, beech, ash or birch.
- Maximum thickness: 10 cm (thinly split wood burns better).
- Avoid paper, plastic and glued wood due to toxic fumes.
• Allow the fire to extinguish on its own. Never extinguish it with water, as this can cause cracks in the fire bowl.
• In case of rain: Use " The Top " to cover the bowl. This prevents ash from blowing away, protects it from rain, and extends the bowl's lifespan.
Please note: The bowl and cover plate will remain warm for some time after use!
